That’s why Matthew McConaughey is making headlines. Although he is a big-name, Oscar-winning actor, and Hollywood elite, he is standing up to Hollywood and telling other actors and entertainers to “embrace” the 45th president “over the next four years.”

When Matthew McConaughey sat down with BBC’s Andrew Marr to promote his new film, “Gold”, he never expected his matter-of-fact opinion on Donald Trump to be the biggest thing on the internet (except for perhaps Beyoncé’s multi-baby pregnancy).
The film, which has a central theme of “small time, central redneck America sticking one up to the snotty East Coast elites, as it were.”
But during the course of the interview, the topic slowly transitioned away from his movie to the fact that actors, artists, and Hollywood at large are taking a “dump on Trump”. Marr then asked if Hollywood should give Trump a break.
“Well, they don’t have a choice now, he’s our President,” McConaughey said. “It’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact and be constructive with him over the next four years.”
Although McConaughey admits he disagreed with candidate Trump, now that the man has been sworn into office, McConaughey implores liberals to “think about” how they can start to support the next president for a better, more united America.
McConaughey continued:
“So anyone, even those who may strongly disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — and that’s another thing, we’ll see what he does compares to what he has said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be.”
Twitter erupted with responses to McConaughey’s call to support and accept Trump.
Jenna Toth tweeted: “Matthew McConaughey said we need to “embrace Trump.” Easy for u to say considering ur also a white guy w more money than god. Have a seat.”
Todd, a man whose profile picture shows him in farmer garb, said: “Well said @McConaughey regarding our POTUS @realDonaldTrump It’s time to come together!”
Gina Mortimer Storr responded with: “@McConaughey, @realDonaldTrump is showing us he does not deserve a chance. When someone shows who he is better believe him.”
It is unclear if McConaughey conducted this interview before Donald Trump banned Muslim immigrants from seven different countries in the Middle East.
